1st and 2nd Grade A-3 All- Stars!
Welcome to our class web page!

                                                               January 23-January 27, 2012
                 Second Grade Math Packet

**Field Trip forms  and fees for "Junie B. Jones" at the Flint Center on February 27th are due TUESDAY AT THE LATEST! (TheaterWorks requires all fees to be remitted 30 days before a performance. Our payment is due in New York City on Friday!) Please contact your child's teacher for scholarship information. We want everyone to go, but need to talk with adults in the family about it.

*President's Day occurs during our Winter break- February 20-24. We are reading the Magic Tree House book Revolutionary War on Wednesday to help us learn more about George Washington and the events surrounding his presidency. We will read Civil War on Sunday to learn more about Abraham Lincoln and his presidency.

BTW: While reading and discussing Wednesday, a student asked who the second president was. The answer is John Adams, and a full list of U.S. Presidents can be found on this Wikipedia link: List of Presidents of the United States.

*Second graders need to practice their basic addition and subtraction facts as well as practice regrouping in 2-digit addition and subtraction.  The steps we take in regrouping can be hard to remember, especially when regrouping in subtraction problems. However, these are important basic skills that we will need throughout the rest of our school careers, and that will help us when we start doing three digit addition subtraction near the end of the school year!

The link above will take you to a PDF file with a good review of 2-digit addition and subtraction that families can print out and use as extra practice at home.  I also have prepared two packets that take students from basic one digit facts through 2 digit facts with regrouping that some students have already gone through. If you would like one of my review packets for your child, please let me know and I will send one home with them..

We will continue to review and practice regrouping as well as our basic math facts throughout the year, even as we study other math topics.
